Timber exports in Cambodia have been banned since 1995 because of uncontrolled deforestation in the country due to an upswing in the country's timber production. Even though log exports are banned, illegal exporting continues.
Cambodia's oil demand has significantly surged in recent years because of the growing extent of economy and the increasing number of vehicles. In 2011, the country imported 1.46 million tons of petroleum, spending about 1.38 billion U.S. dollars. The government estimates that the demand will jump to 3 or 4 million tons a year in coming years.

Oil Consumption (bbl/day)
Definition of Oil - consumption: This entry is the total oil consumed in barrels per day (bbl/day). The discrepancy between the amount of oil produced and/or imported and the amount consumed and/or exported is due to the omission of stock changes, refinery gains, and other complicating factors. This graph shows how dramatic the demand for oil is.
SUmmary:
Despite a growing manufacturing sector, roughly 92 percent of poor Cambodians
still live in rural areas and depend on rapidly depleting natural resources like
land, fish, forests and clean rivers for their livelihoods. Most of Cambodia's fishing is for local consumption and the fishing industry is relatively undeveloped. The mining industry is a small one, however the country does produce small quantities of rubies, sapphires and zircons as well as salt, phosphate and manganese. A Forest Concession Management and Control Pilot Project is helping Cambodia establish an effective logging concession management system and reduce illegal logging. Energy is the most consumed resource in Cambodia.
